abandoned blogs that made money

Page history last edited by steven streight 2 yrs ago

If you have ecommerce widgets on your blog, and you abandon the blog, the blog could still attract search engines and visitors, visitors who might donate, or pay for downloadable product, or buy things, thus making money for you. It has happened.

"Tale of an Abandoned Blog"

(that made money anyway!)

Like most people I have several hobbies and interests.  One of these is playing MMPORGs.

Around 3 months ago, I set up a blog around one of the games I play on blogger.com.  To be honest it wasn’t much of a blog.  I only spend a couple of hours on the whole thing.

I wrote two original posts, more to add a few keywords than anything, then added four more posts with links to articles on other websites and blogs I liked.

I also wrote a 400 word article about the game and posted it on EzineArticles.  I added links to a couple of affiliate programs in the sidebar and on one of the posts.

Like many bloggers, I kind of lost interest and moved onto other things and never got round to posting again.  In fact, I completely forgot that I even had the blog.

I was checking on some old accounts yesterday and came across this blog and figured I would check on the stats, fully expecting a resounding zero.  Imagine my surprise when I found it had been getting between 100 and 200 visitors every day from Google and a couple of other minor search engines.  Needless to say I also checked the stats of the affiliate program and learned that I had made $360.

Not a fortune by any means, but it does demonstrate that even a really lazy blog can make you some money.  The profit worked out to earnings of $180 an hour which sure beats flipping burgers.

Update:  Another $29 yesterday.  Now I’m in a dilema.  Should I resume posting to encourage more traffic or should I leave well alone?
